Visit to Ashdown House

Ashdown House is an unusual 17th century Dutch-style mansion built as a hunting lodge and refuge from the plague, now run by the National Trust. The private tour will view the splendid staircase, the gallery and its paintings, and leads to far-reaching views from the rooftop across the Downs. There are extensive grounds to explore and the location provides an opportunity to walk through the woods to the top of Shuttlecock Hill (3.5 miles) or to nearby White Horse Hill (8 miles).

There is no charge for the tour for National Trust members. Non-National Trust members will be charged £5 in cash on entry. We will meet at the main entrance at 2.15pm ready for the tour to start at 2.45pm prompt. Please note there are a lot of stairs to the rooftop but plenty of time to take them slowly.

For those who would like refreshments beforehand (at your own expense), you are welcome to join us at the Red Lion, Ashbury which is about 2 miles from Ashdown House and serves good food. We will be there from 12.30pm. There are no refreshment facilities at Ashdown House.
